MeroTag ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by MeroTag Nepal Pvt Ltd. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the MeroTag platform, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or activating a MeroTag tag, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
When you create a MeroTag account or activate a MeroTag tag, we collect the following information: Account Information: Your full name, email address, phone number, and city when you register. Tag Profile Information: Details you enter when activating a MeroTag tag — this may include your pet's name, breed, age, or medical notes; your vehicle's make, model, and registration number; or a description of the item the tag is attached to. Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the platform, including pages visited, tags scanned, and scan timestamps. We collect your IP address and browser/device metadata for security and analytics purposes. Third-Party Sign-In: If you sign in using Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google. We do not receive your Google password.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes: To operate the service: Creating and managing your account, activating QR tags, displaying your public recovery profile to finders, and sending WhatsApp or call-through contact requests. To communicate with you: Sending account-related emails such as password resets, tag activation confirmations, and important service updates. To improve the platform: Analysing usage patterns and scan trends to improve the product experience. All analytics data is aggregated and does not personally identify individual users in reports. To prevent fraud and abuse: Detecting unusual activity, protecting user accounts, and enforcing our Terms and Conditions.
3. Information Shared Publicly
When a finder scans your MeroTag tag, they see only the information you have chosen to make public in your tag profile. This typically includes: - Your first name or a display name you set - A contact button (phone or WhatsApp), which routes through the MeroTag platform - Any reward message you have configured - Category-specific details you marked as visible (e.g., pet breed, vehicle colour) Your email address, full phone number, and account details are never shown to finders without your explicit consent. Phone numbers are only revealed when you enable direct contact on a specific tag.
4. Third-Party Services
MeroTag uses the following third-party services to operate the platform: Supabase: Our database and authentication provider. Your account credentials and profile data are stored securely on Supabase infrastructure. Supabase processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy and is compliant with GDPR. Google OAuth: If you choose to sign in with Google, authentication is handled by Google Identity Services. We only store the profile information returned by Google (name and email). WhatsApp: When a finder taps the WhatsApp contact button on a public scan page, they are redirected to WhatsApp's platform. MeroTag does not have access to the content of any WhatsApp messages exchanged between finders and owners. Vercel / Cloudflare: Our web hosting and content delivery infrastructure. Network logs may be retained by these providers for security purposes.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will permanently remove your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by applicable law. Tag scan logs are retained for up to 24 months for analytics purposes and are anonymised after that period. If a tag is deactivated, its public profile is immediately taken offline and no longer accessible to finders.
6. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data: Access: You can view all information stored against your account from your dashboard settings page at any time. Correction: You can update your name, phone number, city, and tag profile details directly from your dashboard. Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at privacy@merotag.com. We will process your request within 30 days. Data Portability: You may request a copy of your personal data in a machine-readable format by writing to us. Objection: You may object to us processing your data for analytics purposes at any time by contacting us. This will not affect your ability to use the core service.
7. Cookies
MeroTag uses strictly necessary session cookies to keep you signed in. These cookies are required for the platform to function and cannot be disabled while you are using the service. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. We do not share cookie data with advertising networks.
8. Children's Privacy
MeroTag is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete that information.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), row-level security on our database, and access controls limiting which staff can access user data. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice on the platform before the changes take effect. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Your continued use of MeroTag after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
